Community Connection Tours
Gain hands-on experience with community based renewable
energy projects. Learn how you can be an ambassador for similar projects
in the future. Experience the full gamut of what it takes to implement a
development project, including working side-by-side with community members on
service projects. Customized tours can be developed for interested
groups.
Explore Appropriate Technologies in the Beautiful Chiapas Highlands!
Tziscao, Chiapas, Mexico
July 25th - August 3rd, 2008
Cost: $1200
Travel to Mexico with Green Empowerment Staff.

Join us in the international sustainability movement.
Build on your appropriate technology skills while completing
needed service projects. Construct a biogas digester, practice solar food
drying/cooking, tour rainwater harvesting systems, build a biosand water
filter, and tour an organic coffee plantation. Cost: $1200 excluding
international airfare to Tziscao. The International Renewable Resources
Institute is a recognized leader in Mexico for community-based

Explore Water and Renewable Energy Projects in the Philippines!
Negros, Visayas, Philippines
November 14th -23rd, 2008
Cost: $1700
Travel to the Philippines with Green Empowerment Staff.
Become a leader in your community.
Join us in the international sustainability movement.
Join us for a tour of water and renewable energy projects in
the central Philippines.
Help complete needed service projects ~ plant fruit trees, establish vegetable
gardens, and/or install biogas digesters. Learn about innovative potable
water delivery, renewable energy, and income generating farm projects by living
alongside families in a rural village. Get on a bike and tour the
remarkable countryside! Cost: $1700 excluding international airfare to Bacolod. AIDFI was
recently recognized by the Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy. www.aidfi.org

Get to the Roots of Sustainable Community Development in Nicaragua!
Jinotega, Nicaragua
December 5th - 13th, 2008
Cost: $1500
Travel to Nicaragua with Green Empowerment Staff.

Join us in the international sustainability movement.
Join us for a tour of micro-hydro and forest protection
projects – participate in prioritized community service projects! Over
the last 14 years, the ATDER-BL has built several hydroelectric plants in the
frontier area of northern Nicaragua,
a wild and isolated land that is off the national electricity grid and largely
"beyond the end of the road." Projects have served as catalysts
for social development, environmental protection, potable water delivery, and
renewable energy. Cost: $1500 excluding international airfare to Managua. ATDER~BL
exists to carry on the legacy of Portland native Ben Linder – a engineer
focused on delivering micro-hydro powered electricity -- he was killed in 1987

Fees for each Community Connection Tour include:
In-country ground transportation, lodging, food, entrance fees,
covering the expenses of technicians that work with us, supplies and
materials for the service projects, and a donation to the NGO partner
and Green Empowerment to support additional renewable
energy/water/watershed restoration projects for the communities we
spend time with.
Stay involved once you return and share your experiences with others! Opportunities will exist to host house
parties about our travels, plan fund-raising events, facilitate neighborhood
discussions on international development and climate change, and help with
related outreach events. Be prepared to stay connected!
