 Short Bio for Jaime Munoz Director of AsoFenix in Nicaragua Asociación Fénix ("AsoFenix"), one of Green Empowerment's two partners in Nicaragua, is a legally registered NGO. Asofenix develops projects using renewable energy technologies, including: solar cooking, solar water pumping, household solar systems, micro-hydro, biogas digesters, and rainwater harvesting. To ensure sustainability, Asofenix works with community based organizations to develop small business enterprises supported by the clean energy powered water and electrification projects. Jaime has been a founding member and Director of Asofenix since 2001. His technical education includes studies in solar energy from 1998-2000 at Hemphill Schools, courses in solar energy at the National Engineering University (Managua), Thermal/Photovoltaic courses at the National University in San Jose, Costa Rica – and-- the International Course on Photovoltaic and Micro Hydroelectricity in Cajamarca, Peru. From 1998-2001 he was a solar technician for PFAE, a project of alternative energy with the Universidad Nacional de Energia. Prior to his work in renewable energy, Jaime was a secondary teacher in Boaco and the director of the secondary and technical institute of the electoral committee in San Jose de los Remates-Boaco. His background in reforestation includes being the leader of international reforestation brigades from 1991-1994. Combining his technical skills with deep roots in the region, Jaime is an effective and dedicated community organizer and renewable energy practitioner. In short, Jaime is a nationally recognized leader in the movement to deliver renewable energy powered electricity, potable water, and watershed restoration to communities living in isolated villages in central Nicaragua.
