Program Coordinator Anna Garwood and volunteer Suzanne Adatto went to
Nicaragua to work with our local partners, The Asociation of Rural
Development Workers-Ben Linder and Asofenix.
El Bote
We are helping to establish the large El Bote Forest Reserve in the
watershed of a new micro hydro project and buffer zone for the largest
intact rainforest left in Central America.
San José de Bocay
The community of San José de Bocay carried out a micro hydro project,
forest reserve, sustainable agriculture, and biomass project.
La Pita
The micro hydro system in La Pita brought electricity to 400 people in 2000.
Asofenix's Solar Water Pumps
A photovoltaic system pumps distribute potable water to 740 people.
Pre-Feasibility Training
In August 2002 Green Empowerment held a Pre-Feasibility Micro Hydro
Training for our Nicaraguan NGO partner, ASOFENIX, on the island of
Ometepe.
Nanoturbine Project
The construction and installation of tiny turbines were used to electrify individual schools and clinics.
Ben Linder
The legacy of Ben Linder, who was killed by the Contras while working
on a micro hydro project, forms the roots of Green Empowerment’s work
in Nicaragua.
ATDER 3 Year Plan
Green Empowerment's first project in Nicaragua, carried out several
years ago, gives you good background on some of our partner
organizations in Nicaragua and the breadth of projects that they
undertake.
