The most active and hands-on way to support our work is to pack your bags and volunteer or intern alongside our local partners around the world. We offer international service-learning opportunities through two options:
• International Internships & Volunteer Placements– Share your unique skills by serving for 3-12 months with one of our partners in Nicaragua, Ecuador, the Philippines, or Malaysian Borneo. During this time, you will work directly with our local partners to strengthen their capacities while immersing yourself in the local culture and expanding your skills and resumé. The average fee for a three-month placement is $2,000, and goes toward paying for the supervisory and support time of Green Empowerment field staff. Green Empowerment will work with you to design the internship, and will provide support in securing accommodations and coordinating logistics for travel, but interns and volunteers are responsible for covering the costs of their stays. Please keep in mind that while we wish we could find a placement for everyone who would like to work with us overseas, as a small nonprofit we have only a limited number of opportunities available at any given time. However, we will keep your application on file and will reach out if a suitable opportunity arises in the near future.
• Group Service-Learning Trips– Green Empowerment also provides trip services for groups of volunteers—from 10-15 people— to travel to our program countries and spend 1.5-3 weeks working on projects in our beneficiary communities. Volunteers come from universities, companies, faith groups, and other institutions to lend their efforts to GE’s community development projects; to learn about and experience local cultures and the dynamics, opportunities, and challenges of international development work; and to share knowledge and friendship with locals, GE and partner staff, and each other. Trip fees cover all in-country expenses and we are happy to work with you to create an itinerary that caters to your group’s particular needs and interests.
